CHICAGO MARATHON

I finally decided on a doctor, after getting about five consultations. Tara had written out a bunch of notes: questions for your lasik surgeon . Tara happened to come with me on my last visit, which was the doctor we chose. He was really nice, took his time, and explained the procedure thoroughly. I was satisfied and wanted to just make an appointment and get it finished. I asked the doctor if he were related to Mr. Callahan, the older man who was part of my support group. He was, as it turned out. The doctor was Mr. Callahan's younger brother, Stewart Callahan. Mr. Callahan is 95 years old and is training for the Chicago Marathon, in October. I couldn't believe that he was going to run a marathon at his age, but he was in excellent shape. ~Dr. Callahan was 89 years old, and still practicing medicine, obviously. He looked about 55 years old. I said to Tara later that he moved and acted like a much younger man. She thought so too, but was worried about him operating at his age. I said I wasn't worried. He seemed much sharper than men half his age. Still, Tara wasn't convinced that he could do the job, but he had plenty of testimonials. Dr. Callahan had recently remarried, and his new wife was expecting.
